SLOGANS takes a huge pleasure in introducing Vicky Filippa. She is something like the one woman powerhouse centre of the Butoh universe in Athens, keeping that deepest connection between all theatre forms. Vicky is remarkable as a popular teacher and leader within the healthiest and most creative of communities in the Greek capital, and, by day, so to speak, she is also at the centre of cutting edge academic research. Daniel Williams first met her in Athens, making music for a weekend workshop, and she was perfectly open to his improvising a soundtrack for every moment of each day. She was always going to be a natural participant for the SLOGANS project:
Vicky Filippa is a dancer, choreographer and teacher of the postmodern Japanese performance art of Butoh. She is one of the few representatives of the genre in Greece.
From 2008 until today, she has systematically taught, directed and choreographed, presenting her works in Greece and abroad, while organizing seminars and performances with international artists and teachers of the genre with whom she has entered into important collaborations.
She has trained – among many others – with masters of the genre: Yumiko Yoshioka, Valentin Tszin, Koseki Sumako, Yuko Kaseki, Sainkho Namtchylac, Atshushi Takenouchi, Katsura Kan, Imre Thormann, Espartaco Martinez, etc.
In 2015 she founded the performing arts group Quantum Body Athens Butoh Dance Group, which over the years has developed into a Butoh community in the heart of Athens. Counting over 40 permanent members, it is one of the largest Butoh groups worldwide. It is an independent group that with its actions tries to transmit the radical practices and aesthetics of Butoh and bring the Greek public into greater contact with the genre, while building bridges of cooperation with foreign artists.
Her vision is to contribute to the alternative scene of Athens by creating a new syllabus for movement, acting and speech called “quantum body”.
The group is supported by its members and by the people who follow it in its actions.

Other fields:
Vicky Filippa also studied mathematics, graduating from the University of Crete. She then continued her studies at postgraduate level in the field of Bioinformatics and worked as a researcher at the Academy of Athens. She is now a PhD candidate at the Athens Medical School.
