Valentin Tzsin

Valentin Tszin, – dancer, teacher, physical theatre master, film actor – first came across Daniel Williams in 2007 in Samara in Russia, listening to his soundtrack at a performance of ‘Ketzal’ by DEREVO. Valentin reaIised that Daniel had ‘brought techno to Butoh’, and a future trajectory was born, and Valentin changed immediately from dramatic theatre to dance. It was inevitable that they would start to collaborate together, working in a new Butoh form in Berlin, Warsaw, Taipei, Athens and many other places since 2016. Further collaboration includes workshops in Berlin such as the Butoh Spielplatz of 2020, as well as appearances at clubs in Berlin such as the late, much lamented TrashEra and FreshEra, and in summer of 2023 workshops on movement and music with solo performances by Valentin with improvised soundtracks by Daniel at ACUD in Berlin. All of their work together explores deeper and deeper into the layers of the meeting of body and music, movement and sound, techno and Butoh, – presented with a profound commitment to improvisation. When SLOGANS began, Daniel was very excited to invite Valentin into the project for ‘Like a virgin: von Ballett bis Butoh and we are all very happy to see him as the king in ‘König Lear Variationen’.
