Daniel realised on first speaking to Polina that her intelligence and enquiring mind – she asked the best questions! -, as well as her broad dance experience would make her a great ally for SLOGANS and for ‘König Lear Variationen‘. The physicality and rawness of her dancing style is joined by her academic background, and her range connects the street to the stage.
She is a dancer, performer, and choreographer born in Russia and based in Berlin since the Russian Invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. At the age of 11, she started her dance path from Belly-dance and Folk Arab dances, later on exploring urban and contemporary dance practices. Polina holds a degree in Arts & Philology from Saint-Petersburg State University.
Her professional dance career started in 2016 in Stage DFT directed by Vitaly Kim in Saint-Petersburg. A year later Polina co-founded an independent dance collective KRIVDA and created “Palomas” 2017, “Oops, I did it again” 2017, “Single-Use Fairy Tale” 2018. 2018 – 2020 she was working in Tel Aviv with Nimrod Freed Tami Dance Company.
Since then she has worked as a freelance performer with many choreographers, directors and Festivals such as: Cindy Van Acker, Romeo Castellucci, Doris Ulrich, Kirill Serebrennikov, Byström Källblad, Alina Belyagina, Breeanne Saxton, Grace Euna Kim, Salzburger Festspiele, Tanz im August, TanzWinterthur Festival, Venice Biennale.
In early 2023 her solo “My Hair Smells like Wet Grass” was selected for “MADE IN BERLIN” Residency by Lake Studios and premiered there.
She currently works as a freelance artist for Micha Purucker (DE), Thalia Theatre (DE), Dance Company MÛES (CH), Brigitte Breternitz, Alica Minar (CZ) and creates and co-creates work with these artists and groups. The first short presentation of her research for a piece “Sister Enemy” (in collaboration with Tirza Ben Zvi) took place in Radialsystem, Berlin in August 2024, and the piece was also shown at the Roxy in Ulm in October 2024.
